October 2014 Review – 3 games of David vs Goliath.
Horrid, horrid, horrid. That’s the only words I can use to describe some of these games as we face 3 of the big boys, and the other 2 games we MUST win. We start off at home to Blackburn Rovers in a must-win game, before we go to Old Trafford to face Manchester United – not fun. After a week off we then go to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in another horrid clash that we will do brilliantly on. We finish the month off with 2 home games – first against West Brom, where we need the 3 points, and then Arsenal for a second month in a row, but this time in the League Cup 4th Round. My predictions for this month are;
W L L D L
Results
Blackpool yet again dominated but again couldn’t find the necessary goals to beat Blackburn, drawing 0-0 at Bloomfield Road. The Tangerines had 63% possession but poor finishing cost them, despite getting half of their shots on target.
It was always going to be United’s game to lose as Blackpool were beaten 2-0 at Old Trafford, but with their reputation intact. United dominated but MOTM Krul kept it at 0-0 until 3 minutes into the second half, Wayne Rooney tapping in from Antonio Valencia’s low cross. United doubled their lead and assured the 3 points 3 minutes into stoppage time as Rooney broke away running 70 yards, before rounding Krul & tapping in.
Again Blackpool put up a fight as some stunning Tim Krul goalkeeping kept the score at Chelsea 1-0 Blackpool at Stamford Bridge. The only goal of the game came 10 minutes before HT, Torres with a thumping header from Juan Mata’s cross, but the excellent Krul denied Torres, Mata & Sturridge numerous times to make sure the GD isn’t too bad.
Blackpool claimed only their second win of the season as they picked up a vital 3 points with a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Bloomfield Road. 17 minutes in & Blackpool were in the lead – and WHAT a goal it was. 25 yards out, Neal Eardley stepped up & brilliantly curled the ball up & over the wall from a free-kick, giving Foster no chance and setting Bloomfield Road alight. 9 minutes into the second half and Blackpool were in dreamland – Kevin De Bruyne again picked the ball up from 25 yards, and unleashed an unstoppable drive that flew into the roof of the net, his first goal for the club – and what a goal it was.
Blackpool pulled off their win of the season yet with an incredible 3-0 win over Arsenal at Bloomfield Road in the League Cup 4th Round. 4 minutes in & Blackpool were in the lead, Kevin De Bruyne being teed up by Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, and the Belgian thumped a strike into the near post from 20 yards. 7 minutes later and it was 2-0, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas curling in from the edge of the area with an inch-perfect shot. Blackpool completed the win with 20 minutes left, MOTM De Buryne racing ahead of Johan Djourou to meet a Matt Phillips cross and flick a volley in. We will face Norwich City at home in the Quarter Final.
So the month ended with two fantastic wins, and let’s be honest, the performances against United & Chelsea weren’t shameful – we were never gonna’ win there. Again I don’t have a table & I played on ahead so I can’t remember where we were but hey – we’re getting better.
Next month we have 4 games against 4 teams who are fighting the drop; Villa, Swansea, Bristol City & Derby – big games for us.
Dan.
